March 22-24, 2017

Relaxing Days

When we finally woke up on March 22nd, the morning, the fog was so dense that we could hardly see the lake.

We all lazed around until noon. Janelle made egg salad for lunch. It is something that I taught her when she was just barely old enough to help around the kitchen. There were several years that she stayed with me every other Monday and it became a tradition with us to have egg salad sandwiches for lunch on those days.

We spent a couple hours at the community swimming pool and hot tub.

Andy and his family treated us to dinner to celebrate our birthdays which had passed at the end of February and the first week in March. It was our choice, so we selected a local Italian restaurant named Two Meatballs in the Kitchen.

We had another relaxing day on March 23rd.

We did venture out to play miniature golf. Corinne surprised herself and us by getting four holes in one—and one of them awarded her with a ticket for a free round. We will save that for next year.

Since this was just a week of vacation for Andy and his family, we encouraged them to do any and everything they wanted. Today, March 24th, they chose to go to the huge flea market.

It still intrigues us as to why shoppers like to bring their dogs to the market and push them around in strollers.

We made a stop at a popular store which sells and ships citrus and other products. Andy waited outside while Corinne, Cordell and I did some shopping.

Later in the afternoon, Andy and his family drove to Venice to meet some friends and have dinner together. This was the last evening of vacation for them. It was a fast week, but we were so grateful that we could all be together again. We did have a beautiful sunset before they returned to the condo.

An Afternoon on Sanibel

This was our first trip to Sanibel this season. It is a very popular destination for many, many people and traffic is especially heavy during February and March. So we decided to wait until after lunch to venture over there and it turned out to be a good decision. We were blessed to find a parking place at the Lighthouse Beach parking lot.

Our condo comes supplied with beach towels and 4 very nice beach chairs that have straps for carrying them on our backs and small cooler pouches along with several other pouches.

We set up on the beach where we had a view of Fort Myers Beach.

Andy, Corinne and Janelle, took a walk and found a less populated part of the beach so, we all moved there.

While wading in the Gulf, Andy stepped on a rather large conch shell.

He and Janelle were greatly surprised when they picked up the shell and found a large hermit crab living inside along with a smaller crab.

Since we will not be back home with Janelle for Easter, we bought her this hat for her Easter present. It’s probably better than candy.

We had more than enough sun and reluctantly decided we had better leave before we became too sunburned.

Fun with Family

I prepared a hot breakfast this morning.

Janelle was happy that we had chocolate donuts waiting here for her. She is never too old for us to spoil.

It was a nice morning to enjoy relaxing on the lanai.

Janelle continued to work on her college assignments.

I am pretty sure there was some texting going on with her boyfriend.

We ventured out to a fish and reptile store so that Janelle could do some research for an assignment. She had called ahead to get permission for her to make photographs inside the store.

We saw some very pretty aquariums. It was interesting to hear how some of them are designed to be self-cleaning.

We didn’t expect to see a skeleton head in an aquarium.

I was intrigued by the statue of David because we saw the real one when we toured in Italy.

Today was our local geocaching friend, Brian’s 70th birthday. We had him join us for dinner and we celebrated his birthday.

Brian was having some problems with his telephone message app on his cell phone and it didn’t take Janelle but a couple of minutes to show him how to use it. She grasps the technology concepts and operations so much quicker than we do.
